I’m Vicky Downing, an Educational Psychologist and founder of Guiding Hands Therapy. With over two decades in education and more than 11 years in private practice, I bring a broad and compassionate perspective to my work. I support individuals, couples, and families through a range of services including psychotherapy, play therapy, marriage and couples counselling, family therapy, and mediation. My approach is integrative and client-focused, drawing from CBT, DBT, Gestalt, and Brain-Based Therapies to suit each client’s needs. I have a special interest in ADHD, divorce-related challenges, and psycho-educational and psycho-legal assessments. Alongside my clinical work, I lead supervision groups for psychologists and conduct teacher training and talks at schools. My passion lies in helping people navigate life’s challenges with understanding, resilience, and practical tools for growth.

We offer psychological and psycho-educational assessments, therapy, and guidance for children, adolescents, and families. Our services include emotional evaluations, play therapy, trauma and bereavement counselling, career and subject choice guidance, and school readiness assessments. We also provide psycho-legal assessments, parental guidance, and family mediation. Certain sessions are available online, and services can be conducted in both English and Afrikaans.

We offer a supportive space to help families navigate divorce, separation, and prepare parenting plans with understanding and care. Our goal is to promote healthy communication and peaceful resolutions that prioritize the best interests of either children concerned or involved.

We provide specialized training for educators and caregivers, focusing on supporting children with ADHD, anxiety, and emotional challenges. Our programs also promote personal wellness through self-care, time management, and stress management techniques.
