ADHD Parent Training Course

This comprehensive parent training course will assist parents and caregivers of children with ADHD. Research shows that participation in Behavioural Training Programmes (also known as BPTs and of which this course is an example), can lead to improvements in the child’s symptoms.

Why is this? 

Research shows that: 

• Improvements in behaviour are related to healthy parent-child relationships.
• Positive attention and reinforcement are beneficial to children and they respond best to these types of discipline measures.
• Likewise, poor behaviour could be linked to inconsistent and harsh parenting.
• Positive changes are made through knowing where to focus attention to correct behaviour.
• Change does not happen overnight, but over a period of time.
• Parenting a child with ADHD can be hard work. Parents and caregivers also need support.

This 7-week online live training will equip parents and caregivers to help their children learn to manage their difficulties. 

What will we look at over the 7 weeks:

1. Information about a diagnosis of ADHD and common co-occurring conditions
2. Treatment of ADHD: conventional and supplementary treatments which have been clinically shown to be effective
3. Understanding the complexities of ADHD as they relate to a child with ADHD and knowing how to parent a child with ADHD
4. Improving parent-child relationships
5. Evidence-based emotional regulation (control) strategies
6. Effective discipline strategies
7. Helping your child with homework and studying
8. Using an effective parenting style to help your child
9. Uncovering your child’s strengths

During the sessions, there will be opportunities to practise the skills and apply knowledge to your own parenting situation. In addition, with the format of weekly group sessions, you will have the opportunity to gain support from other group members as well as Dr Vicky.

As part of the course, you will be provided with a downloadable parent training manual and other useful resources. You will also be able to access a recording of each of the live sessions afterwards for your reference.
