Finding out that a child in our class or even our own child is “cutting” or self-harming can be very distressing and can leave us confused, not knowing how to react. We are left wondering how we can help them, what we should say and do (or not say and do), and whether this means they are trying to die by suicide. What do we need to know to help them? What can we do to empower ourselves to help them?
This 2-hour online and on-demand training looks at self-harm in children and adolescents, common ideas about why people generally self-harm, other problems which often co-occur with self-harm and how self-harm is different to suicide. We also identify risk factors and which groups are most at risk. We look at normal reactions when discovering a child may be self-harming and practical steps that can be taken to support the child (and family of the child) who self-harms.
Additional resources, details of crisis lines and access to the recording to watch (and re-watch the training) are included in the price.
