Understanding Accommodation and Concessions Assessments: Teacher and Parent Training

Endorsed by SACE

5 CPTD/TD

Date: Saturday 6 June 2026
Time: 9 am to 12 pm

Applying for examination concessions and accommodations need not be daunting. In this 3-hour workshop, specifically for schools, teachers, parents and school management teams, we look at:

  • The necessity for exam accommodations and concessions, including where they fit in legislation
  • Applications processes, with a behind-the-scenes look at the different role-players
  • Making sense of information shared in reports from psychologists and other therapists
  • Which specialists to refer to according to the learner’s difficulties
  • Working collaboratively with parents and specialists to make the process smoother
  • Best practice in terms of when to apply for accommodations and concessions

This training bridges the gap between the legislation and best practice, offering practical insight and discussion of case studies to apply theory to real-world scenarios. Policies covered include the DBE, GDE, IEB and Cambridge-based curricula, with additional information about other boards. In addition to a comprehensive training manual for future reference, attendees will also have access to a Google drive containing the most recent examination board policies.

Previous attendees shared the following when this training was presented live in February 2026:

“Thank you so much for the wonderful workshop. It was very insightful and definitely helped my understanding of how to implement accommodations.”

“What you said has given me confidence to address any issues I am finding with
accommodations and application thereof.”

“Overall, I found the presentation enlightening and reaffirming.”
